LEGISLATION

In 2023, I introduced several pieces of legislation to combat wasteful spending and to create sustainable money management practices including Medicaid proof of residency requirements, caps to limit the annual growth of the state budget and reform of the opportunity scholarship into a forgivable loan with in-state work requirements. In response to the most damaging wildfire our area has ever experienced, I successfully carried legislation to provide $2 Million for Black Fire Recovery and brought back over $4 Million for local Infastructure needs.

In 2021, the first bill I passed as as a newly elected Senator was to create the office of the Rural Ombudsman. Still today, I continue my work to bridge the rural-urban divide and was proud to file legislation to increase penalties for livestock larceny and offer tax incentives to railroad infrastructure to aid mining and oil & gas industries.

Arguably my greatest success this session was a result of my fight to put children first and bring meaningful reform to CYFD. Moving forward, I intend to resurrect the effort to create a Child Ombudsman office and will work to create outside independent oversight of the dysfunctional CYFD agency.
